I thought you all might like an update on Wilbur. He is a feral hog of domestic decent sure looks European doesn't he. He is very gentle, but also very dangerous he doesn't know his own strength and loves to play. He does Not take well to intruders other than humans. He will instantly kill anything that enters his pen and eat it. He loves snakes! we have had him for about 19 months now. He was very young when I caught him he would have been born near December the first 2006.
His growth rate is by no means Typical of the same hog in the wild. Wilbur is very spoiled and eats like a king!
Wilbur at about 3 weeks December 28,06

3 months

6 months

8 months in his first summer shed weighs around 100 pounds.

near his first birthday December 19 ,07

February 10,08 14 months near the 200 pound mark.

19 months old July 6,08 now 250-275 pounds maybe more it's hard to judge a fat hog still very gentle. He plays hard and doesn't know he a walking tank!

Michelle feeding Wilber peanuts

He eats from the hand, got to watch those razors now reaching the 2 inch mark.

He's go a little euro in him. I'm glad to see you didn't cut him He will be a handful soon, but I know y'all can handle it. Keep sending us updates on him. It looks like you got a little petting zoo going on there.

our plans are to keep him as long as he is nice. Then well you know the drill, I wont set one free!
I record the sounds he makes and study his behavior. hog shave lots more vocalizations than they get credit for.

how can I say this without sounding rude? NO one in their right mind would introduce hogs to their land intentionally.
Here's the deal with hogs it's not a matter of "if", but a matter of when you will have them. They are a very invasive species that need desperately to be controled.
DON"T DO IT!

Hes a good lookin boy - I learned alot from my hog , the sounds he made before I fed him , when he liked to run around his pen, etc. Its great for the kids too.

Guess, you are right. I have been guilty of releasing some, about 20 years ago, but would never do it now! Live and learn.
