Do yourself a favor and listen for hogs more than you look for them. I have been right on top of them many times before I have seen them. If you hunt the oak bottoms or grass lands, chances are that you will hear them "if you listen for them," before you see them. This gives you the advantage of circling around down wind of them and getting close enough to spear them! Even a big boar can be under your feet in the heavy cover. Walk slow, stop and listen every couple of feet! Don't be in any hurry at all, God made the woods for you to relax in and harvest from, so enjoy every move you make. When your in thier territory, stop and look for fresh sign, fresh rooting, fresh rubs, try and identify what they are rooting. Why are they rooting here? Do you see a lone trail, etc. How many birds can you identify? The slower you move and the more you listen; the more succesful you will be! Trust me.

I should have read this yesterday - had a hog charge me from 3 feet didnt see it at all. It was tucked up under some cabbage palms. I was bow hunting, tried to get a shot off - took off a peice of its hoof. I think thats the only reason it didnt run me over. It happened so quick - scared the crap out of me.

Been there before. I was stalking a main trail one morning and my attention was drawn to the humming of a hornets nest. I really wanted to be quiet, but wanted to move a little faster to get out of there. I heard a little rustle in the under growth, but thought it was a squirell or something and was not paying attention. The ground was wet, so I wasn't making much noise as I moved through. About a minute or two later, I was on top of a big old boar; I don't think he was charging me; I think we just scared the crap out of eachother!! It was a good rush, but no meat.

Down at bond swamp the cover is incredibly thick and stalking is tough. We move a couple of feet and stop look and listen. But these hogs will hold tight till your on top of them then squeal and break cover. I've had them run out from under my feet and all you see is the cane parting. Hell, last time i jumped one out of some cane and he left fresh mud on the leaves and logs he went through, i am talking about wet, dripping mud. This place offers the pigs some prime habitat to hide from hunters with very little chance for a shot, but it sure is fun trying!!!!

| Yeah, snakes are a concern. Back in November we saw two, one sunning in the root ball of a blown over tree, one in the water.

| Bond Swamp is located right on the range for really big eastern diamond-backs. The two snakes we saw last time were non-posionous black snakes.

Them black snakes get huge.Saw them in Virginia.

| Some of those black snakes will get big. When I lived in Indiana I used to pick them up and play with them.
