Sour mash can be a very good bait at certain times of the year. As a general rule, hogs will prefer dry corn. Sour mash has a very distinct sour yeast smell that the hogs can smell for a long distance and brings them in quicker. Summer time is the best time to offer it as an attractant. It will attract flies as well that will lay eggs that make maggots for extra protien. It is also easier to eat and has water in it.  Winter time is not. Acorns are one of thier favorite foods and water is generally plentiful.

SourMash Recipe for success.

I'm not one to push my products on anyone, so if you don't wan't to try our sourmash x-cel,  then here is a recipe that you can use. This is my recipe. It was the inspiration for my instant dry mix.

First off there is no worry about exact measurements! The hogs are not trained experts to the taste of gourmet food; they just know when something tastes good.

1) 40-50lb sack of dry corn
1) package of yeast
    1/2 lb.  of sugar
About 10lbs of sweet feed
1) Tablespoon apple extract
1) table spoon vanilla extract

Just mix all the ingredients together in a trash can or food barrel and cover with water. let set until you can't stand the smell anymore. The sugar and water will make the mash in about 2 weeks in the hot summer. When the firmentation process "bubbling" stops put a lid on it. You may have to add some water in the first week. The corn will soak it up.

The best Tip I can give you is to be careful with it. It will stink! If you can, make it in a food barrel that has a screw on lid that you can leave near you baiting site. That way you don't have to transport it!
