I have tinkered around with some new liquid scents for bear and also have been playing around with crawfish scent since we have so many down here. I need a little insight as far as what would work for each animal before I go any farther. The easiest thing to do would be to  grind up and preserve fresh or sun ripened  crawfish; would that work? Would there be a market for that or just the oil?

I think both are usable. I like any bait that is oil based. I think it last longer at your set, it holds up in cold and wet weather. The great thing about just using oil is animals can smell it but they can't see it and in certain applications this is needed.

For bear I would suggest anything that the odor is strong and last a long time. I want something so strong that I can walk into a site a week after I put it out and still smell it.

Have you ever smelled beaver castor? If not I can send you some this fall.

I pretty much agree with everything that wyohunter just said, but seems to me that the only scent that lasts a week up here in the cold months when trapping season is open is Skunk esseance....

I also agree with the oily the better.... ground up crawfish works well i use it for conn , mink and otter trapping... But i feel its the oil that holds the scent  and lures them to the set.. The ground up pieces are just food that they can actually eat..

Beaver castor works well on just about anything such as Beaver, Mink, Otter ,Muskrats, Fox, coyotes, coon bobcats and so on  and if you never smelled it I have some castors hanging and drying now that I could send you a set.

I tinker around with lure making for my own use on the trapline

But i feel your largest market would be for the crawfish oil as a scent instead of a bait

Your right about the skunk essence. If someone could make something that had that kind of strength and longevity with different odors. Your shipping department would be busy.
