With all the new trapping regulations this year for marten and fisher and having to work during muskrat trapping season,I ended up not even setting a trap this year. Before this year you could set a small conibear on the ground for fisher and marten.Because of the lynx issue you can no longer do that.Conibears have to now be 4 feet above the snow or ground and on a tree of at least a 45% angle, not bigger then 4 inches. Also no exposed bait. With all that and my wife getting more into the deer hunting I decided to concentrate more on the deer hunting with her, instead of trapping.

It gets flustrating with all the regulations. Trying to keep up with them and then trying to see the rational behind them. Wyoming is not bad compared to other states so I guess I'm lucky.

With the holiday season I'm working alot of my days off so I'm hoping that after the first of the year I'll be able to set a few traps.

They haven't nor do I think they will ever open it in Wyoming. They have been talking about opening up a controlled hunt on them as soon as Wyoming and the US government can agree on how to handle it.

Trapping is hard work, and it is time consuming. I never trapped on Dans level, but i know how much time it eats up, and to the best of my knowledge you never get paid enough for the work involved.  Hat's off to the trappers, you guys sure put in some long hours....

I have always make a lot more money ginseng hunting than trapping. Ofcourse I moved to a state that doesn't have any ginseng. If there is ever a market for sage brush or tumbleweeds, I'll be a millionaire.

aaaaah yeah. To bad you cant cook with that sagebrush! Used to ginseng hunt with my grandfather and it was fun, except when you run up on a rattlesnake or a yellowjackets nest, the rest of the day was shot to hell!!!   Getting stung as a youngster i would swell up like a balloon, now if i get stung not only do i swell, it shuts down my ability to breathe. During spring and summer i carry a couple of epi-pens with me, just in case.

When I had moved down and lived in Virgina for 8 years I used to dig up alot of ginseng. That was alot of fun.All you need is a screwdriver and bag.Takes alot to make a pound once it is dried but I used to make quite abit of money doing it.:D

There was always something about seeing a big old yellow 4 pronger with a cluster of red berries. Just makes you all fuzzy inside.
