I've seen one black flying squirrel once when hunting. I was about twelve then, and havent seen any since.
Some friends of mine and the wife trap flying squirrels in thier attic, and i take them and release them down on the river near where i live.

well, I never thought that fox squirells and cat squirells would even be on anyone's list. That is all we have down here. Red and gray! We do have a lot of black fox squirells and albino too. The closer you get to the sabine river; the more black and albinos you will find. I like to hunt them with my little marlin .22, I just sit quite and shoot them in the head. I don't go over to pick them up; I just wait until everything gets quite again and shoot another one when they come back out. When I'm ready to leave, I just walk around and pick them all up. That makes some good gumbo with a little deer sausage. Very good fried too with big old homemade biscuits and apple jelly.
