hi there , here in n.z you can trap possums they dont want the skins all they want is the fur,you can jut pull it out they pay $105 a kg it takes 10 possums to get a kg they mix the fur with sheeps wool ,they also pay a $100 for pigs heads .for hog heads 60lb an up they test them for t.b i c yous trap foxs .id be keen on a fox skin what wood 1 $ ,would any 1 sell me 1 would ya post it to new zealand , sum hunters get up to 500 possums a week traping 7days a weekLast edited on Wed Jun 18th, 2008 10:30 am by g1en n.z

| Darn possums arn't good for nothing but screwing up a good fox set and spreading Possum Disease. This is a sickness that they carry to horses, which causes muscle deterioration. Right now I have World Champion horse that I am fixing to have to put down, because she fell victim to this. One hip has shrunk to the point that there is almost nothing there, and she can not run now, and has trouble getting up. She has been such a good horse, that I just hate to have her put down as long as she can get around some. I kill every possum and skunk that I trap around the barn. I relocate the coons to the bayou. | sorry to hear that we hate pussums to nz is full of them and cuz of them the government drops 1000s of tons of 1080 poison , and that kills or hogs deer and our hunting dogs even birds , so we kill every possum we see run them over in the car shoot them trap them , and they make bed ware out of them,it costs $4450.00 Attached Image (viewed 67 times):

That can't be right. $4450? For a possum bedspread? Heck, when I was trapping, the most I EVER got for a darn possum was $1.25. There is just no demand for the pelt.

When i trapped possums were not worth the time it took to skin them. We are covered up with the nasty critters.
I guess they pay , lets say 5.00 a hide now to the person who doe's all the work, then stich them together and make huge profit. Sound's alot like the oil companies dont it?

The possums you have over there, must be a litte different than the ones we have here. I have killed more than a few here, and I would have noticed if the hair pulled out that easy, or at least I think I would have! I have got them pretty well thinned out around my place now, after one of my prize horses came down with possum disease, but I will sure try to pull the hair of of one, the next time I shot one.
Is the machine you pictured, kind of like a duck plucker? Does it have a spinning wheel with rubber fingers, that pull the hair out and blow it into the bag?

| this is why we hate them coz of possums the gov air drop 1000s tons of 1080 baits in the bush and it duz kill possums but it kills every thing birds ,deer ,hogs ,heres a deer killed by a u.s bow hunter u are not aloud to spot light the bush for possums in nz ,you woold think they woold let you if they wanted to get rid of them with fur at a good $ lots of pepole have got in to killing them, after they 1080 a block you cant hunt it with dogs for 2years if the dog eats a 1080ed possum bone it kills them Attached Image (viewed 38 times):
