I have yet to find anyone who has figured out how to make a homemade UV Killer. I have an ultra violet light and am going to put it to a good use. I am going to research "U-V-Killer" as best I can. I will then start testing with my UV light and see if I can't figure this stuff out.. I will hopefully have a post with answer to this question. Anyone ever tried this???

| One of the manufactures of the UV killer detergent, puts out a booklet that throughly explains the way deer see colors, compared to humans. They also sell a small light (cheap!), that will check your cloths, for UV brightners. I will get back to you, with more info on this.

Well, let us know what you find out. I have harvested a lot of deer in my old blue jeans and in camo as well. Very interesting

| Sorry about letting this lay. I read the article, and that researcher said that blue is the biggest offender, to deer. Orange and red is not visible as a color. I also found out that Cheer Free and Clear, does not use any UV enhancers or scent. The jug I bought was $5.50 and is suppose to do 24 loads. I bought this at the grocery store, not one of the larger discount stores, so you can probably find it cheaper.

I think its really all about scent. But one thing is for sure if the hogs are being hunted often. They will smell, see, and hear you coming very easily. I think thats why the are so fun to hunt, they can be just down right smart.

-- heres what the manufactor has to say
My name is Dan Gutting.
I am not experienced with message boards but I have studied much of the literature on deer vision and am familiar with how our products, Sport-wash and U-V-Killer, work. I was assisting 15 yrs ago at U of Ga when live deer were tested.
The subject of Sport-Wash vs other detergents like Purex has been raised
before I got registered, so I will try to shed some light.
Very few detergents, color-safe bleaches or other laundry products claim on the label to have uv brightening dyes and, when called, most marketers' customer service reps have no idea except what it says on the package. Since it has become desirable to be dye-free, the uv dyes are usually identified as FWAs if at all. FWA is an acronym for Fluorescent Whitening Agent, one of about 200 mostly organic compounds that collect energy from 405 nm down to 350nm. This energy causes a temporary change in the molecule, and when it returns to its unexcited state it emits
light energy at about 440 nm. This is ALMOST invisible to humans but extremely bright to deer, turkey, and all animals that lack a uv filter.
But you are waiting to hear about Purex, and without putting a UV light on your bottle of Purex I cannot say for sure. We found a list of a dozen or so detergents that the US army is said to have reccommended as safe. So we bought them and tested them with a UV light. You can see the photos we took under UV light on our website. atsko.com. Go to tech info, then laundry care, and the first article is WASHING ACU and BDU or copy and paste this phrase WASHING ACU and BDU in google . The pictures at the end of the article are thumb nails that will pop to full screen.
I won''t bore you with all the details of why Sport-Wash is superior to every other detergent unless there are specific questions. There are 6 or 8 articles in clothing care articles. "Don't wash away performance" is a good place to start.
I look forward to being exploited as a source and Atsko Inc allows anyone to copy and distribute our educational materials as long as source credit is given to Atsko Inc.
While you are at our site please watch the free version of our video and, if you have a hunger for details, the book "How Game Animals See and Smell" is also free on our site.
I guess he's just saying that this product is tested and works - now if you try other products bought or homemade - it isn't going to have the same results - even store bought washes without brightners may not work as well as their products - thus use what they have tested and can prove works !

I have used Sport Wash, and would use it again, if it was available locally. It is expensive, when you look at the size you are getting, but you only use a capful, so it comes out about the same per load. The UV killer is very expensive! It puts a white colored mist on the cloths, and has to dry. A bottle doesn't go very far. With that said, I think they are honest in their research. This was the company that offers a little light to check to see if your cloths are glowing.
