   Hey to everyone,

Hunted Chatahoochee WMA yesterday. Saw tons of bear sign, the usual tracks, scat, the norm. Was leaving and stopped by the rangers station and this guy comes up with a small sow that weighed 135 lbs.. In georgia a shooter is 75 lbs or heavier.

What are considered shooters in other states? I personally think shooting a small bear is detremental to the bear population, but what are your thoughts?

I hold out for more mature bear myself. I consider myself a hunter not a killer, I'm out to enjoy nature and not just to have something in the back of my truck. I hope this was there first bear and maybe got excited. The last bear I took was over 350lbs and was 10 years old. For Wyoming that's considered a respectable. I have heard in your area they can get quite a bit bigger. If you want to see a picture of my bear go to the main menu and go into "meet the staff". And I do not look at myself as a master hunter/trapper! Boarmaster put that in there.

Cool----I'll Check it out....... See my other post about the almost twins? in the bear section.  After seeing the small ( about the size of my dalmation, not weight)sow go for 135, i figure those two were maybe 300-350. No , that was not goober's first bear, he's shot them before.

The game wardens said that some guy brought one in earlier that weighed 78 pounds, he missed a huge fine by three pounds.

That's pretty sad, I do my best to manage wildlife either on public land or my own lease. Never Killed a Bear, but rest assured, it would have to be worthy of my bullet or arrow. I can honestly say that, I would rather watch any of the smaller animals than take one.

I agree with boarmaster on this, and i am glad others tend to be more consevation minded. I think taking more elderley game ensures the survival of the species by cutting the competition for food and reducing the numbers. Young breeding stock should be avoided so that there will be bears or deer or whatever for years to come.

Killing a 78 lb bear is not something to brag about at work. For boarmaster or wyo e-mail me at firedawg226@comcast .net and i'll forward you a article my mother and father e-mailed me before their passing. This is the biggest bear on record, complete with dim. and weight----hes huge!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For other forum members i'll do the same. This is a huge bear and awe inspiring..

Given a choice I'd rather shoot a big boar bear. Here any bear is legal and I'd much rather have a client shoot a cub rather then the sow bear.I want that sow bear to be around having more cubs and 1 out of every 3 cubs never make it anyways. We all do things diffrent and we need to support each other.

I ain't knockin any guides brucet. You guys put in some hard work and I agree with you 100%; your job is to put them on the bear. If that's what the client want's then thats what they get. Keep up the hard work.  I would be happy to hunt with you any day.:D I'm glad your back.

I'm not condeming any guides, and hope i didnt offend you brucet. A guided hunt shows commitment to stewardship of huntable populations. A mature bear taken for meat or trophy is cool, i think that for survival of the species to ensure our hunting futures that the young bears should not be harvested.
