For the bear hunters out there.....  In october new Georgia state records were set. The record was set on 10/01 for a black bear @ 570 lbs. On 10/02 the record was set again by a 15 y/o teenager for a black bear @574 lbs. On 10/01 a 17 y/o teenager shot the 4th largest bow kill black bear @ 479 lbs.

   Just a little f.y.i.:)

   Hey brucet,

They were big bears, so i'm not ill about them like i was with the small bears.

Up where you live and hunt, what is the size or weight of the bears that go intro the record book's?

Here they go more by the skull measurements for the record book.Any bear over 200 pounds is considered a big bear.We get them up to 500 pounds.

i dont know if they use the skull measurements or not, i think they go by weight only. At the time of harvest, the wardens do take a tooth and send it to a lab. The warden stated that they saw the tooth in half and count the rings to get the bears age, similar to the rings in a tree.

I thought that was a  interesting fact to know.
