The following is by bearhuntingaddict......

I have been talking to 4everbowhunt for the better half of the past year. After going to New Brunswick for a few years now unsuccessfully, He asked me to join him in his camp. So I put in for the draw and sure enough got drawn for two tags so my buddy could go with me. We arrived at 4evers camp on sunday and was greeted with a fresh lobster and steak dinner. What a welcome after a 21 hour drive! 4ever kept emailing me with tales of his baits being pounded by multiple bears. I kept telling him my trigger finger was getting more itchy by the day. 4ever and his helper Fred were two of the nices, funniest, and most helpful guys I have ever been around in a hunting camp. We shared stories and become instant friends, but with two guys like that who wouldnt? They even arranged for my buddy and I to go out on a lobster fishing boat in the bay of Fundy, which was quite an experience for two southern boys. The evening of first day of hunting brought great anticipation as the baits were still being pounding by multiple bears. After rebaiting and getting set in the treestand the black flies decided that I looked like a good dinner, although the bug jacket was a life saver the flies found their way in. I sat for three hours enjoying the solitude and quietness of the north woods when I looked to my right and saw the rear end of what I thought was a bear disappear behind a tree. Did I see what I thought I saw? Was it really a bear? Sure enough!! his head poked out the other side of the clump of trees and my heart skipped a beat, then went into hyperdrive. I could actually see my shirt bouncing up and down. It was a good bear! It even had the black muzzle that I was looking for. I went through the checklist in my head, let the bear settle down, sit still, look at the bear but not his eyes. I dont think I took a breath this entire time. The bear dissappeared once again behind another clump of trees, this time only to take his sweet time. I took use of the cover and raised my CVA optima elite chambered in the 7mm 08. I all but had given up thinking the bear disappeared into the thick brush behind the bait when all of a sudden his head popped back and and he stopped only hiding his hips and back legs. At 13 yards I found the bear through my nikkon 3-9x40 and used my thumb to pull the hammer back. It made a near silent click and to my surprised the bear remained focused beyond me and my stand. I placed the crosshairs steadily on the chest of what was to be my first bruin and squeezed. CLICK!!, the hammer fell and no KABOOM. My heart sank and the feeling of disbelief and desperation filled my body. Still looking at the bear through the scope, we met eye to eye. I blinked and he was gone. I leaned back in my seat and could not believe what just happened. I opened my rifle and sure enough I loaded it and the firing pin struck the primer. I have never had an issue with Remington Core Lokts before but I did this time, so I reloaded a new cartridge. Did I just blow my first and only opportunity at a bear? If I had, I couldnt blame it on anyone and I felt fortunate enough to see what I saw that evening in those woods. I was staring off in the direction that the bear came from when I noticed a black mass creeping through the brush back down the hill from where the previous bear ran to. This bear stepped out onto a trail 70 yards from where I sat. Thinking that it was the same bear (rookie mistake) I raised my rifle and took aim. I had a small window between branches to shoot through and found the bear in my scope. I sqeezed the trigger this time, waiting to hear the metallic click of the hammer striking but instead this time I didn't hear anything nor felt any recoil, all I saw through the scope was the bear going straight to the ground and rolling over. I watched the bear until all movement stopped. When I lowered my rifle I realized that I had just taken my first bear! What a rush! Just to have these magnificant animals within view in the woods. It was 8:02 when I pulled the trigger and Fred had heard my shot, he called 4ever on the phone and was told to wait 20 minutes before coming in to get me, all the while I was dancing a jig up in that stand, maybe because I had to pee really bad, or maybe because the flies and mosquitos were biting my hands, but I like to think that I was that elated about my first bear. I heard Fred roll up in the truck and gathered my stuff. I got down out of the stand and Fred and I went to check out my bear. Upon seeing the bear I realized it wasnt the same bear but a trophy none the less, not a huge bear by any means but it was my trophy.

my buddy had the opportunity to tag out that same night but decided to pass on the bear he saw. But the next night he had a decent bear with a black muzzle come in and he decided that this black muzzle wasn't getting away, and it didn't

We had 15 bear sighting that week on two different bait sites. When you talk about 4everbowhunt you are talking about a guy that knows his bears, and how to put a rookie on them. What an enjoyable week I had.

Here's to you 4ever and Fred!!! Hope we share a camp again real soon!

Thanks guys...I had a call from buddy Fred at 7a.m. and he got his bear last night so we'll skin it out after we finish baiting this evening. It is my turn now to hunt with my bow and with only 2 weeks left in the spring season I hope to connect on a decent bear.We have some boars well over 300 pounds hitting our sites with the boys having seen them.I wanted see my buddy Fred connect first before I hunted. We have 6 baits that are getting hammered with multiple bears every night so I hope to get lucky as time is limited.
