Thanks for the tips guys, the cookin grease sounds like a good idea, ive been saving bacon grease for quit a while now.
I have a couple local places that will let me take all the grease they have for free. I will dump 5 gal at each site and they will have it licked up in 2 days.

| Best of luck in the upcoming season wyohunter and to anyone else hunting bear this fall.My baits are being destroyed by the bears and Sept. 8th is the opener for the 2 week archery season. Can hardly wait to sit a stand and fill my tag.Didn't get much of a chance this past spring to hunt myself as I was taking care of other hunters but I prefer the fall because there are a lot less "BITING INSECTS"!!!!!!!!

Well, I can start baiting tommorow. Season doesn't start until Sept. 19 here in Lower Michigan. I use bread, buns and sweets when I can get some. When I feed the bears I fill a 5 gallon bucket with goodies dump some used fryer grease on it and then when I get to my bait site I will dump some livestock molassas all over everything.

Do you bait everyday? I tried the molasses and they didn't seem to care for it to much.

What I do is. I will start a bait with a little bit of evrything I have. Cover it with cooking oil. Let what is left in the bucket drip out onto the ground in front of the bait. Dig a hole for the bait to go in. Then I cover the bait with heavy logs so the rodents like racoons can't get to the bait. Then I take the molassas and drizzle on the logs that cover the bait and on trees and stumps that surrounds the bait. Then what I do is a honey burn. After a couple days I will check the bait to see if it has been hit. If it has I will replenish the bait, if it hasn't I will give it a couple more days and if still no bear I will do another honey burn. After a bait has been hit I wil check it in 3 days and replenish the bait if it is gone. I will do that untill the week before season and then I bait everyday.
Here is an example of one of my baits from last year.
