| It's about that time of year for hunting and I am so excited!!! I have never been before but my brother n law has. My ? is Is a .40cal hand gun good enough for hog hunting as well as other animals such as deer and squirrel. I relly like the .357 mag but I think it may be more power full than I would like not to metion I have much better aim on the .40 and would allso like it for home protection because I do live in Orlando fl

| If you are talling about a .40 S&W auto, I would say that it too light. I have a friend that shot a boar about 8 times in the head with a 9mm, and none of them penetrated the skull. he had to go to his truck and get his deer rifle to kill the trapped hog. If I was uses a hand gun for hog hunting, I would stick with the .44 Mag, but I bet there are people here that have killed hogs with .357's or other lighter hand gun cartridges. So I went to bass pro shop today and they are telling me .44-or the .45 is the way to go. To mant bad stories about not having a powerful enough gun to take down a hog as in exceses of 5-11 shots to kill. I;m looking for a rifel and a hand gun that will take one down in 1-2 shots max

| Don't go the 45 route, unless maybe you are talking about a 45 Long Colt, but then, you are talking about the same money to go with the 44Mag, and be able to get ammo almost anywhere, and have a much more powerful handgun.

So a .44mag is what I should be looking for? The most powerful hand gun I have shot was a .357 mag. How does the .44 compair like is it semi auto, more or less powerful as far as kick and what a good price is possably used?

| i use a .44 mag with a 7.5 inch barrel, ruger redhawk. i use hornady ammo and have no complaints.....

You need a 7.5 inch barrel to stabilize the high velocity of the .44 Mag handgun, and attain the accuracy needed for hunting. I use a Stainlees Steel Ruger Super Blackhawk, which is a single action handgun. I am not sure of a good price, as I bought mine a long time ago. Check gunbroker.com and gunsamerica.com for price comparison.

| I think i paid about 600. for mine, which is as you know a double action which is what i prefer... I do know that pistol will reach out along way's with plenty of power. The hornady ammo i use is the ballist tipped bullets, cant remember the grain weight, but somewhere around 225 to 240???? i think.

So I bought my first gun today nothing big. It is a Savage model 64 .22cal just for fun. I also got a tasco scope and holow points for it. What all will I be abel to take down with this. granted I'm not the best shot in the world.

Is a .44mag a six shooter or a semi auto? As you might know Bass Pro Shop is haveing the biggest sale of the year coming up and I'm am going but first I am trying to find out the most that i can before I by. I would like to know if it has more kick than a .357mag also can I put a scope on it?

Well I like that I will be going to probabley buy one this sat. but I won't be abel to bring it home till wed. cuz of the 3 day cool off period What are some good names but not to expenceve that I should look at? also do they come in semi automatic?

| Yes, they do come in semi-auto, but my like run to Ruger. There are several others, but you won't beat Ruger as far as accuracy and reliability. As far as money, you might find a blued around $475 and a stainless model probably start around $550. Then again, I am probably low balling it.

So I got talked into the S&W 40cal stainless for $379.00 I pick it up thursday and we'll find out then how good it is. Not to big on the no external saftey but it will have to do.
