Scott, great idea on the hunt/fish swap forum. Thanks.
I'll start it out with a open invite for anyone who's travels might bring them through the rolling hills of deep east Texas with some time to spare. I live on Toledo Bend Lake near a very small community called Six Mile.
Fishing: We have excellent bass and crappie fishing if you don't mind fishing out of a beat up old Champion bass boat. Bowfishing for carp and catfish is alot of fun in march and april.
Hunting: Hogs can be had on National Forest lands but this is no gimme. Whitetail deer can be had on National Forest but it's nothing like the hill country or south Texas in terms of numbers. Turkey hunting around here is tough but very rewarding if you get lucky and bag one of the local easterns, these are the smartest birds on the planet.
What I'd like to do: Before I get tooooo much older I'd like to go elk hunting, preferably archery elk hunting.

Since I live in SW Louisiana and do a lot of work in Oklahoma, I pass right by you on Hwy 87 pretty frequently. Might have to stop & buy you a cup of coffee sometime!
I'd be interested to learn about the opportunities to bag hogs around there!

Jim, sorry for not replying sooner, I've been a bit busy lately.
Just holler if you come through and I'll take you up on the coffee.
There is some hogs to be had on public lands around here but most of them stay on private tracts that have deer feeders running year round.

hello - sounds like a great opportunity for anyone . I was very fortunate to draw a left over - archery - any elk tag this yr. . It's a hunt on the national guard base - camp navajo- It runs nov. 6th thru the 19th. It's not during the rut hunts in Sept. but hey I'm going elk hunting. Lot's a restrictions on a military base hunt . I'm not military but rules are rules.
If you put in for an archery elk hunt here , Arizona -i'd be willing to do whatever it takes to help out. The only draw back is this is a lottery state . New Mexico offers some great hunts - but most are land owners tags and can cost big $$ . Colorado is one of the easiest states to go archery elk hunting - But can be the hardest in actually harvesting an animal. Most guys want a nice big bull - 6x6 - if you are willing to settle for a smaller raghorn - colorado has tons of those taken every year.
Hope you find someone willing to trade and you get to experience an elk hunt-it's never to late to start doing your own thing also - I know guys from dallas who go every yr. to colo - start your own tradition with a few freinds and go !! Gary
