Me and Jayden 10 hunted this morning and only saw 1 buck, a small one. This evening we got a late start. We dropped off Michelle and Micaela to hunt a draw and we drove on to a swampy area. I was busy watching where I was driving instead of watching for deer and we drove in on a nice buck with a group of does. They moved of into a patch of timber next to a creek. So we headed to one of our favorite sitting spots in hopes that we might see them if they came out the other end. I would rattle and grunt off an on, about 45 minutes before sunset I rattled one last time this time getting real loud. Shortly after the sequence I spotted a buck standing on the edge of the timber looking out way. Jayden looked at him and said he was a shooter, but he had to come closer he was nearly 400 yards away. I grunted and rattled again lightly and he started our way. He would Zig Zag about 75 yards one way and then about the same the other way all the way across the field. He stopped at about 75 yards and Jayden dropped him with the .243 Icon. He was trying to get up so she put another one in him. Then she spotted a spike and wanted to shoot him too! I told her we still had to get the truck to this one and crossing that swamp is not fun in 2 wheel drive we got lucky the water was only about 2 feet deep in the deepest spot!
Oh the buck had a 17.5 inside spread.
