headed out May 31 to do a muskrat scouting trip on a body of water i have been wanting to get on for 3 years now and finnaly found a way into it on the way there we seen 2 redfox one was carrying a field mouse i tryed taking a pic but couldnt get one .... anyway we got on the water and found some beaver huts right away and then a mess load of rat feed beds all in all we found 14 old and some new beaver huts ...a few hours out there we ran across this moose
after we got to the other end of the water we decided to do some fishing on the way back, im guessing we caught over 30 fish total ,mostly pickeral and yellow perch, here was the nicest one i got into the boat
which was a task on 4lb test and a ultrilite rod with no steal leader LOL ....I was set up for trout but we didnt find any trout, needless to say i lost a few spinners due to pickeral biting the line but it was an excellent day and i finnaly got to scout this water

Pickeral are very aggressive a heck of a fighting fish so they are real fun to catch, they have razor sharp teeth and lots of them. so steel leaders are reccomended.... Very boney so are usually tossed back and considerd a trash fish.... and they will attack things twice there size sometimes LOL
Pretty much they are like Pike

Is that a popular fish up there? What is the saught after one. Down here it is Bass, Reds and specs mainly, Crappie too. We are are the "Sportsman Paradise State," but the more I see from y'all, the more it makes me want to travel again.

Here its salmon, brook trout, and lake trout.Alot of people consider the bass and pickrel as trash fish. The bass are not even native to Maine but were illegaly stocked here years ago.

Despite rumors to the contrary....... most anglers up here like to catch a few pickerel just for the fun of it.
Yes same cold water anglers frown on certain warm water species..... but that makes about as much sense as people from Houlton frowning on Silver Ridge.
******************************************************
Yes bass were illegallly stocked here..... but the have become a multibillion dollar industry for the guides and anglers who chase them. That's twice the per annum spending of Trout Elitests.
In some cases the bass have found there way into new waters through tributaries. So don't introduce anything to Maine unless you want it to take over. Sort of like some of them flatlanders we keep getting.

Theres a reason for that. They eat trout and take over the trouts habitat.

| WE have a solution for bass in the Meduxnekeag....... muskies are trying to get in from Canada. The bass and the brown trout are all migrators from the St. John. Only a matter of time until the Muskies are here too.

| Join Trout unlimited...... they are the only group out there trying to preserve the traditional and natural trout habitats. Eastern Brook Trout coalition is working with all of IFW's on the east coast preserve the natural populations. Check out TU's website...always looking for help.

How can they help when the bass are taking over? They have a bunch of regulations on the bass now where you can't even hardly kill them anymore. With all the bass regulations theres no way to get rid of them.In a few years there won't be hardly anymore brook trout once the bass get into all the trout waters.

Some people love bass.I just would rather have our own native species instead.
