I'm getting ready for another season of trout fishing. Tying flies, cleaning line and so forth.
I use a 9 ft. 5wt. graphite rod with a #5 weight forward line. i like this set up mainley because of the overhead vegetation on the rivers here, Works great for roll-cast's and a side-arm shot under a low hanging bush on the other side of the river.
i tiie and use alot of #14- #18 bead head nymphs usually in a stone fly or hare's ear pattern. I also use a peacock herl wrapped with grizzely hackel front to rear fished dry, and a assortment of flies.
Now, let's hear what some of the others use fishing for trout.

Gold colored spinner with worm hooked through mulitiple times on hook leaving a little as a tail trailing behind hook

Sounds good !!! Here we have rules as to what you can use, like certain rivers are artificial only, some you can use bait. I tend to use only artificial only because i love my fly rod, and i dont have to worry about which part of the river i'm fishing. The rivers where you can use bait have restrictions as to the areas you can use bait, and areas that are artificial. It's wierd but let's say on the "hooch" from the dam @ lake lanier to the hwy. 20 bridge you can use bait or artificial. South of the hwy. bridge artificial only, then it changes again.
I saw a guy in this spot fishing north of the bridge, and his line drifted under the bridge. As soon as this happened the game warden stepped out and gave him a ticket.

| They have some artifical only,fly fishing only, or catch and release areas here in Maine also.I'll fish with artifical lures only in those areas once in a while but the other two I don't bother with as the fly fishing is not for me and I release all my limit of trout into a frying pan.

| Sad to say but usually i catch my limit and the guy i fish with as well. I get to keep sixteen fish, his limit and mine but will cook them when i get home, and feed him. Make some hush-puppies and jalapeno cloe slaw, some fries and you got a meal......

| When I was fly fishing in Wyoming, the shop in Casper said to use a specific fly during the hatch, and that nothing else would work. My buddy told me to stick with deer hair hoppers, that they produce year round. We used them, and caught more German Golden Browns and Rainbows, than you could shake a stick at. We also flattened the barb, so that we could release the trout, unhurt, or less damage, anyway. I have also found that the Goggle Eye and Bull Bream here in texas, love the deer hair hopper, as well! Sweet!!!! I use a grizzley hackeled fly with a peacock hurl body, cant remember the name. I tie it in different sizes and it produces fish when they stop feeding, you can fish it dry or wet. I really like bead head nympths, in a dark stone fly pattern. Fish it with the current in deep pools and hang on, it will get bit.
When releasing fish i use hemostats and dont even touch the fish, that way i dont remove the protective oils or slime on thier bodys and they seem fine.

| We fished Dave's Hopper dry, and kept it floating with a liberal use of fly floatant. This took place about 10 miles south of Ten Sleep, in the Big Horn Mountains.

Been to colorado near walden and rand fishing. Fished the roaring fork, colorado and several other rivers and creeks. caught lot's of very nice trout. Nothing like standing in a river out there about knee deep in the water, hear a splash and look upstream or down and see a herd of mule deer or elk crossing near you, that is a sight to see. Lot's of very nice views....
I might mention that black ants work well here and i caught some fish out there on that pattern. I also use a dry fly on surface with an extra longer tippet trailing a nymph or wet fly. The dry fly works as an attractant and a strike indicator. If you havent tried this rig, give it a whirl.....

Living on the Gulf Coast, fly fishing like you speak of, is nonexistant. I do fly fish here, but it is not like what you do. I have had the opportunity to fly fish, as I have told you. Yes, we had some luck on the black ant pattern and the western bumble bee, as well. Flyfishing here, mostly gets you bream and goggle eye. If you change to bugs, you can pick up a few bass. For bass, overall, it is very slow compared to standard bait fishing.

Well, I am getting the boat ready to do some fishing myself. My job went to half time and I'll be on the ambulance more, so that means I will have a few days of during the week to hunt and fish this year. I missed out on everything last year do to no lease and my job, so I am getting ready to have some fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Beware all specs, reds, flounder, bass, crappie, and hogs. I'm in the mood for for filling the freezer
