Hey glen, welcome to Boarmasters. Good to see you here.
I've read a bunch of your post on Tman and really enjoyed seeing how you hunt hogs in N.Z. Good stuff.
On snare locks, I prefer the sure locks for live snaring because, even tho they are considered a heavy duty lock, once they have enough force put on them they will bend and crimp the cable into the lock which stops the tightening of the lock with continued force being exerted on the snare.

| Great advice NUTOY; every time you post an answer I learn something about snaring myself.

How much do the hogs weigh in New Zealand? I saw a picture of one killed with a bow, years ago, and it was huge.

I hate to say it, but I know folks that won't drag one 50 yards to a four wheeler. I'd like to them.

About right. I read this article, about bowhunting hogs in New Zealand. The hog they showed was the size of a HIPPO. Probably one of those things like Hogzilla, over here. Nuyoy and I hunt the same area, and while there are some 400 pounders around, most are less than 300. Personally, most of what I shoot are in the 150# class. Heck, who wants to have to handle one bigger than that! I mean, I love to see them and watch them, but unless one like that, shows up with real big tusks, I will probably pass on him. Well, except the one that is tearing up my feeder.

4 hours to hike a hog out, good lord. I bet Glen is in some kind of shape.
Tell me, is your terrain flat or hilly? I ask because of your other post about hogs on the hill.

yeh its a long time to be packin hogs most of the bush is step and dense bush ,and theres no roads ,if we luckly we can get a farm to hunt and can get a 4x4 in ,or we can get them in the open .like in my other post more n.z hogs its open grass an my m8s still packin . due to so many pig hunters here the pigs are getting chased all the time so the pigs are way out the back bush ,but every 1 here in n.z packs hogs for that kind of time its the only way to get them out,a lot of pig hunters here have bad backs ,we pack our deer out the same way il take sum pics of the bush next time im out for yaLast edited on Tue Jun 17th, 2008 01:14 pm by g1en n.z

That would be great, pics that is.... I hear ya on the bad back. Alot of guy's here would not take the time to pack one out. Not the guy's on the forum, but the more casual hunters or weekend warrior's. Let's face it, here in the USA hunters have it pretty soft. Myself, and the others on the forum are more ethical hunters, and wont shoot a hog and leave, as we believe that the hog deserves more respect. Alot of so-called hunters will shoot them while hunting another animal and leave them lay to rot, which is against everything i was ever taught.Last edited on Wed Jun 18th, 2008 12:15 am by firedawg226

| Glen, do you guy's get together and have a cookout after the hunt? You know, grill up some good pork and toss back many cases of beer, tell lies and you know, guy stuff. Or do you simply go home and rest after packing out a 150 pound hog?
