I trapped a boar that I had been after for 3months now and people that I knew took it upon themselves to go and check him out I fond him @ 6:30 in the morning he was lying down in the trap not a care in the world I had to go out to deer lease that I was getting off of and I had to get all my equipment off of it that day with the hog being in the shade all day I felt that he was okay. They seen my horses looking @ the trap so they walk up the cage and said that the boar just looked @ them. Thinking that I was @ home they went over to my house and when they got back said that he had turned the trap side ways and the door was partly open he took his snout and pushed his way out. With a bloody face they told me he took off taking the woods down it sounded like. Needless to say I am very pissed off and now I am worried that he may never come back, or even think twice about getting into a trap I have baited since any have gotten nothing but coons on my camera. is he gone what do yall think asking due to this is my first time? This is him the night before I caught him.

Yeah, I doubt he will get into any trap any time soon. There is something I must have missed though. I thought you said you were getting off the lease, was this another lease? Do you think that the people that found the hog did something that that resulted in his release?
Hog Bait Recipe
(Try this if shelled corn is not working! Must pre-bait and have hogs coming to the trap prior to setting the door trigger for best results!)
40-50 gallon metal trash can with lid
150 pounds of corn
8 pounds of sugar
1 packet of yeast
Optional: 4-5 packets of grape, strawberry or raspberry flavored Jello
Place corn in trash can, fill and maintain can with water 3"- 4" above corn. Mix in all other ingredients. Place trash can in the sun with lid on. Stir with a shovel or paddle daily for 10-14 days. Don’t spill the "finished" product on your clothes!! Ladle in and around trap and replenish as needed.
Other Baits
- Corn fermented in beer
- Used fish grease/peanut oil and corn
- Diesel or used motor oil coated onto a post or piece of old carpet
- Bread fermented in water
- Spoiled produce (no onions!)
- Dry dog food
- Ripe fruit (bananas or plums)
- Commercially available baits
Tip: "Freshen" other baits by spraying every other day with a strawberry gelatin/water mix in a pump-up sprayer.

Yea it is hard for me to believe that he would have done this on his own due to the fact that he was to calm when I found him. This picture is on my own land that people that did this is a local sheriff that runs a trust T garden next to my land. They were the first ones to tell me that they seen track on there property. They have never hunted before so I blamed them on this due to the fact that they did not have a clue what the hell they were doing even going near him I asked what would have happened if the boar would have gotten a hold of them. You think I will get him back on my property?

| Hard to say, but I would surprised if you do. At least, any time soon. He will be back, but getting him back in the trap is another story. Now, from what you told me, that raises other questions. Was the boars face bloody when you saw him? Sounds like they might have saw him, and startewd teaseing him through the wire, which could have got him to moving the trap. I have heard of hogs moving traps before. In fact, if you are trapping near water, it is always reccommended that you stake the trap down, as the hogs could move the trap toward the water, and end up pushing it into the water and drowning themselves. No when I saw him he was fine. Just lying down that what makes me think that they messed with him. Why would he be fine one minute then pissed off the next. I am not really worried about catching him just wanna get him back to start feeding him and getting him comfortable again. Cannot imagine how pissed I am @ this time. Took me 3months to get this done for some stupid ass city slicker to screw me.

From what you said, about him having a bloody face, I figured they might have been teasing him. On my small traps, I keep a piece of rope there, and when I find a hog in the trap, I go ahead and tie the door shut, just in case the hogs start moving the trap, or something.
I feel your pain brother. it's kinda like you baiting a trot line, and find out that someone else has run it, and released your catfish.

Everyday when I walk out there and not see any signs of him I just think about what they did. Just wish see that son of a gun on that camera again. Would ya happen to know how long they normally are gun shy of surroundings they hung out on. This hog was a loner hard due to the fact I never seen any others on my camera, he has a nice lil hide out so do they just hang out there until they get hungry enough? I am learning as I go having yall helps out a great deal just about everything that you all have told me has happen and all the tips on trapping help out a great deal Thanks again.

That really depends on the individual hog. He will probably be back, but he may not. I wouldn't look for him inside of a month though.

| Great! Which recipe did you use? How did you place the bait? He maybe back, but I bet it will be a bit before you get him back in the trap. Try moving the trap to a new location, and weave limbs with leaves, and anything else from the surroundings, through the trap wire, to try to camoflage it and make it look natural. Be sure to tie the trap door open and keep baiting it, when you are not there. Good Luck.

| Yams might have done it by themselves! Thanks!

| I think Hog Wild is mainly Kool-Aid, with other stuff mixed with it. I have used it, off and on, but have not had conclusive results that it helps anything.

I would have to agree with you. I am in the wrong line of buisness if you know what I mean. There is so much stuff out there for them I think just some good old fashion sour corn is all they need without the sugar ha ha. Well like you said the work to trap him again.

Here he is feeding @ the feeder in the woods. Will be setting up feeder in my pasture hoping to see if I could bring more around.
